The legend said this:
"The brightest star will awaken to its true nature and free its people.
The slumbering stars will then shine anew, push back the veil of darkness,
and emancipate themselves from imposed rules."
This legend no longer held much meaning after so many years; it was nothing more than a children's tale. Until I arrived. My birth caused a dazzling flash of light. Although normal during the birth of us Starlights, mine was much stronger than usual. The elders had, from then on, placed their hopes in me, which I found futile and incomprehensible. How could they believe in a fairy tale?
The more a Starlight grows, the brighter they become. According to some writings, a Starlight has three phases in their life. As far as anyone knew, everyone only had two. We are blue, a deep, soft blue, emanating a light from within us. But as I entered the so-called second phase of my life, my body became over-bright, a dazzling flash covering our entire living space. I discovered a new color: a brilliant, magnificent yellow, enveloped me from head to toe and radiated from me. The legend was true. The elders jumped for joy, others were shocked or amazed. I shivered with excitement.
Instinctively, I began to fly, going faster and faster towards the sky, that expanse of black above our heads. It was like an uncontrollable urge, like breathing after spending too much time underwater. It was then, at full speed, that I passed through something—I felt it. I looked around to discover a breathtaking spectacle. Stars, planets, colors. All these novelties in a surprising expanse. Space was real...
